April Weekends

Saturday, Mar 31st, 2018

This weekend, we went to one of my favorite trails. PG & E Trail. It is green everywhere and we loved it. We parked the car in the farthest parking lot, usually its so difficult to find parking anywhere in Rancho San Antonio County Park, but today was different. We found parking so easily, then realized its Easter weekend and lot of people were out of town. We usually start our hike little late in the morning, so that it is little easier to find parking on normal busy weekends.

This weekend, we started our hike at 8: 47 AM and went on PG & E Trail. After 2 miles we turned right and went onto Upper Wildcat Canyon Trail. Then we took left onto Upper High Meadow Trail, reached PG & E Vista Point. Took in views and stayed there for few minutes. Along the way, we stopped in many places to take pictures and just enjoy the views, did I say that we love the green mountains here. This will last only for few months, before you know, it will be brown everywhere. So when it is green, we stop often to take in the views. We left PG & E vista point and started coming down by PG & E trail. We are slow hikers, we walk in our own pace and most of the time everyone overtakes us. You can find our pace from the following screenshot.

We have seen many wildlife in this park, depending on the time of the day. We have seen lot of deers, wild turkeys and so many different varieties of birds. Most wild life we have seen here come out towards the evening time. But during this week’s hike, this is the only wild life we saw (except for the turkey in the parking lot)

The view of Mora Trail from PG & E Trail. Mora and Chamise trail are our favorite in this park. The park and the trails over here are always crowded, but when you are on Mora and Chamise trail, you have the trail almost to yourself. You might pass two or three hikers on those trails.

We had a lazy weekend, just went out for a short walk around the Almaden Lake park on Sunday evening. The walk around the lake is little more than a mile. It was sunny and perfect, the temperature was in upper 60’s. It would have been better if we went in the afternoon. We reached the park around 6 PM. It has been many years, since we have been to this park, totally forgot that we have to pay for parking here, which I do not like, since there are so many free parks are there. We had to pay $6 for parking. But we saw lot of people park their car on the street and came inside the park via a small gate. It was becoming cold, so we were there only for an hour and did only two rounds around the lake, it was 2.55 miles. Total waste of our $6, just for 2.55 miles!

We saw lot of California Poppy on one side of lake, little black ducky happily swimming in the lake.

Lot of people, young and old were fishing in the lake, you can see few people in this picture fishing on the other side of the lake.

You can go from one side of the lake to other side by this bridge.

The Los Alamitos Creek full of water with the recent rain, looks like a river.

Second weekend in a row, we went to a park with a lake. This week we visited Lake Elizabeth Park in Fremont. Good thing about this Lake park is, there is NO entrance / parking fee. It has been many years since we visited this park. If I remember correctly, we visited this park 7 years back. We walked 6.17 miles this week around the Lake Elizabeth and the connected sports field. We stopped many times to take pictures and we are slow too.

What can be better than lying in the hammock in the park on a really warm and sunny weekend?

Lot of parties going on in the park with bouncy houses, BBQ, just people hanging out.

New Play Structure, Looks pretty awesome.

This weekend was not so good . Mrs RF had week long conference last week and was very tired and slept the whole day Saturday. Obviously she could not sleep during night and slept around 5 AM on Sunday and woke up by 10 AM. After having lunch, went to Cataldi Park in San Jose. Food and nice weather made her so sleepy, she had to push herself to walk and walk she did. We walked 6.79 Miles. But Mrs. RF didn’t enjoy her walk, total sleep walking!
